Louis Montillet (1928-1988)

A Quebec artist and painter, Louis was born in Périgueux, France in October 1928. At the age of 18 years old, he perfected his craft in the city of Toulouse where he specialized in fresco restoration.

He particularly worked for the French government on the restoration of ancient paintings and other historical monuments.

Shortly after his arrival in Canada, Louis Montillet became a naturalized Canadian. He had a particular passion for the Quebecois landscape and he expressed its subtleties with vigor and feelings.

Its exceptional versatility made it possible for him to paint a variety of subjects ranging from a "scene de genre", poetic portraits to religious representations.

Many of his works have appeared in several galleries in Quebec, his adopted country. Several others were murals (painting on whole wall) large restaurants or reception halls.

For several years, he dedicated his work to quite a diverse clientele, from “superior” paintings to fashionable ones. In his remarkable works of art, the artist Louis Montillet touched many people.
