Description
Louis admired the work of the Saint. He also loved animals and the beauty of nature. One of his paintings of St. Francis is hung in a church in Montreal. The photo of this painting does not show the writing at bottom right very well. Here is what is written (Prayer of St. Francis):
“Lord, Make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon;.
Where there is discord, let me create agreement.
Where is the error, let me bring truth.
Where there is doubt, let me inspire faith.
Where there is despair, let me bring hope.
Where is darkness, let me bring light.
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.
O Lord, I do not so much seek to
be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in losing ourselves that we are found,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.”
